OTA commissions in India: what booking sites really cost

Online travel agencies (OTAs) such as Booking.com, MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, Agoda and Airbnb typically take about 15% to 25% of each booking in India, plus 18% GST on the commission. Rates depend on your contract, visibility programmes and region, so check your own agreement and work out what each booking really earns.

Booking sites are worth it, up to a point

Booking sites bring guests you'd never reach alone, especially first-time and foreign guests. One Indian homestay owner found booking sites brought under 12% of revenue over five years, while most guests found them on Google and booked by phone or WhatsApp (OpenStays founder, LinkedIn). Your mix will differ: track where each booking comes from. InnRow's dashboard shows your direct booking share.
