The guest register (Form B): what homestays and hotels must record

Hotels, homestays and other accommodation providers in India keep a register of every guest, with separate records for Indians and foreigners, now referred to as Form B (formerly Form F). It records who stayed, when, their address and ID, and for foreigners their passport and visa. It can be kept on paper or digitally.

What to record

For every guest For foreign guests, also
Full name, age and gender Nationality
Address and phone number Passport number, place and date of issue
ID type and number Visa number, type and expiry
Arrival date and time Arrival in India and where from
Room number Next destination
Departure date and time Form C submission reference
Number of guests
Purpose of visit

Hosts must keep separate registers for Indian and foreign guests in addition to filing Form C (Airbnb help). Local police or state tourism rules may ask for more; check with your local station or tourism office.

Paper or digital?

Many properties still keep a bound register book. A digital register is easier to search when the police or a tourism officer asks, can't be lost or damaged, and keeps the ID photo with the record. InnRow keeps every check-in as a record you can export to Excel. See guest check-in.
